Pioneer of packaging-free
Umano specializes in selling bulk products to networks of independent, eco-friendly grocery stores. Working with these stores has allowed us to establish a distribution model that reflects our values and beliefs. For example, in 2017, Umano was the first Quebec company to market unwrapped chocolate bars! In addition, we have implemented a reusable deposit system that eliminates the use of single-use packaging between us and retailers while offering a format flexibility that is more suited to small independent grocery stores.

Here are some of our concrete actions:
MINIMALIST PACKAGING
For all online orders, we use compostable kraft bags. These minimalist packages are not only eco-friendly but also convenient for customers who care about the environment.
REUSING CARDBOARD BOXES
We reuse previously used cardboard boxes to ship your orders. By giving these boxes a second life, we reduce the need to produce new packaging and help cut down on waste.
USING ORIGINAL PACKAGING
Whenever possible, we ship bulk orders using their original packaging. This helps us avoid creating new packages and reduces our environmental impact.
Reusing 25kg Bags
In our warehouse, empty 25kg bags are reused as trash bags. This lets us maximize the use of these materials before final disposal.
Recycling
We have implemented rigorous recycling practices across all our operations. All recyclable materials are sorted and sent to the appropriate recycling facilities.
Pallet Protection
We reuse pallet protective packaging we receive to protect the pallets we ship. This reduces the consumption of new protective materials.
