Panela is also called rapadura or muscovado depending on the regions of the world where it is produced. It is in fact an integral cane sugar, obtained by simple evaporation of sugar cane juice.

Often confused with brown sugar, panela is much more natural and healthier than its cousin. Indeed, brown sugar is obtained by mixing refined sugar with molasses. Whereas for panela, there is no refining process or separation of the molasses. This is why it is also called complete or integral sugar.

This sugar is known for its high content of minerals and trace elements.

Sometimes sold in block form, our panela is granulated for greater ease of use.

Its caramelized and spicy aroma will give an inimitable flavor to your desserts, yogurts, cereals and fruit salads. Aguapanela is a typical Colombian drink, a delicious and refreshing lemonade made with lime and panela.

Our organic and fair trade panela is produced in various cooperatives in northern Peru. Our main partner is the CAES cooperative which brings together farms around Montero, in Peru. These farms bring together 150 producers who are divided into 48 modules (production units including the mill and the building with vats for filtering and heating the cane juice). Depending on availability, the panela can also come from the Narandino cooperative.
